\frac{1}{R} = \frac{1}{X} + \frac{1}{Y}

Let's carry \frac{1}{X} to the L.H.S of the equation.

\frac{1}{R} - \frac{1}{X} = \frac{1}{Y}

\frac{X - R}{RX} = \frac{1}{Y}

There are two ways to derive the answer here, but I'd rather we go with the explicit method.

Cross multiply)
Y(X - R) = RX

(Divide both sides by (X - R) )
